Download and Install SketchUp on a PC

You can either watch this Install SketchUp on a PC video, or you can read through the instructions below, or you can do a bit of both!

1. Check that your PC meets SketchUp's minimum requirements:

• https://help.sketchup.com/en/sketchup/system-requirements 

2. Do you already have access to a SketchUp subscription?

• If not, or you're not sure, you can:
  
  • Buy SketchUp.
  • Start a SketchUp Studio 30-day Free Trial. (If you're eligible)
• If yes, please continue onto the next step.

3. Have you activated your Trimble ID?

• If not, or you're not sure, go to the Activate your Trimble ID account article.
• If yes, please continue onto the next step.

4. Has a SketchUp subscription been assigned to your Trimble ID? 

• If not, or you're not sure, go to the Check your SketchUp subscription allocation article.
  
• If yes, please continue onto the next step.

5. Update Your Operating System and System Drivers

• It is VERY important that your operating system and all system drivers are up to date.
  
  • You can download automatic graphics card driver updating apps from:
    • https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/ for NVIDIA graphics cards
    • https://www.amd.com/en/support for AMD graphics cards

6. Uninstall all other SketchUp installations

7. Download SketchUp

1. Go to: https://www.sketchupaustralia.com.au/
2. Click “Sign in”. (Top right of the page)
3. Click “Trimble AMP”.
4. Enter your Trimble ID (The email address associated with your Trimble ID)
5. Click “Next”.
6. Enter your Trimble ID Password
   • If you’ve forgotten your Trimble ID password, go to the Forgot your Trimble ID password article.
7. Click “Sign in”.
8. Your Trimble ID may have access to multiple Trimble Accounts.
   • Trimble Products that you’ve purchased from Building Point Australia should be visible under the account with the sub title “Purchased via BUILDINGPOINT AUSTRALIA PTY LTD”, so open that account.
9. Open “My Products”.
10. Find the "SketchUp" product.
    •  If you can't find it, you may not have been allocated a SketchUp subscription, go to the Check your SketchUp subscription allocation article.
11. Click "View included Applications".
12. Find the "SketchUp Pro" card.
13. Click "Download", you will be directed to the SketchUp Pro Download page.
14. You may be asked to "Sign-in to Trimble ID" again, please do this.
15. From the table, find the "Windows 64 Bit" column, and the most up-to-date "SketchUp Pro" version, and click "Download".
16. Once the download is complete, locate the SketchUp Pro installer file and take note of where it has been saved.
    • It is most likely in your downloads folder.

8. Install SketchUp

1. Make sure that you’ve logged in to the computer as the computer’s administrator.
2. Locate the SketchUp Pro installer file.
   • It is most likely in your downloads folder.
3. Right-click the SketchUp Pro installer file and select “Run as administrator”.
   • Please DO NOT just double click on the SketchUp Pro installer file as this may cause issues with SketchUp's operation down the track.
4. You may be asked a series of permission/access questions by Windows, click Yes/Ok/Accept, if you wish to proceed with the installation.
5. Choose the appropriate language, then click "Next".
6. When asked which directory to install SketchUp to, it's usually best to proceed with the default option, so click "Install".
7. Click the “Finish” button when prompted.
8. Delete the SketchUp Pro installer file.
9. Please ensure that in your graphics card management software, SketchUp and Layout have been identified as software that should utilise your dedicated graphics card and not an integrated display adaptor, if this option exists.
   • This typically only impacts laptops.
10. Launch SketchUp at least once before logging out of the computer’s administrator account

9. Launch and Activate SketchUp

1. Launch SketchUp by double clicking on the SketchUp icon
   • There should be a SketchUp icon on your Desktop.
   • You should also be able to find a SketchUp icon in your Windows start menu.
2. You may be asked a series of permission/access questions by Windows, click Yes/Ok/Accept, if you wish to proceed with launching SketchUp.
3. When you reach the "Welcome to SketchUp" window, you'll see a “Sign in” button, click this button, the Trimble ID login page should open.
4. Enter your Trimble ID email, then your password, then click “Sign in”, and you should receive confirmation that you’re signed in.
5. Go back to the “Welcome to SketchUp” window and you should now be in the “Files” section where you can start a new project from a default template or open an existing project.
