Which SketchUp licence should I get?

For Commercial Work

If you are a professional, or want to produce professional results, you will want SketchUp Pro subscription or the SketchUp Studio subscription.

SketchUp Pro Subscription

The SketchUp Pro subscription comes with SketchUp (3D modeller), Layout (2D drafting tool), unlimited Trimble Connect (cloud + collaboration tool), the SketchUp mobile Viewer - including the VR tool and the SketchUp Style builder!

SketchUp Subscriptions are now managed via a Trimble ID (simple sign in), rather than old fashioned serial numbers and auth-codes. You will also get an AMP (Account Management Portal), which allows you to see all of your subscriptions, who they are assigned to (or how many you have left to assign), and also allows you to re-assign licenses to new employees (once every 90 days).

SketchUp Pro Classic

The SketchUp Pro Classic license and M&S were phased out in 2020 and replaced by subscription only. Note: You will never lose your SketchUp Classic license. It will just not be able to be upgraded.

A subscriptions provides advanced features, such as: a full, unlimited Trimble Connect account, AR/VR capability, etc.

SketchUp Studio

SketchUp Studio comes with all of the SketchUp Pro goodies, but also includes V-Ray and Trimble Scan Essentials. 

V-Ray renders using adaptive ray tracing technology and proprietary scene intelligence to create imagery that is indistinguishable from a photograph.

Today, because of its versatility, V-Ray is used by small firms and large studios around the world. Other industries supported by V-Ray’s 3D rendering software include animation, architecture, interior design, automotive, fashion and apparel, and product design

For Students and Educators

SketchUp Student Subscription

The Student subscription gives you full access to SketchUp Studio. To qualify for a student subscription, you need to be enrolled in an accredited course in a relevant field of study. You will need to submit your order with a current Student ID with 'valid to' date, or equivalent.

SketchUp Educator Subscription

The Educator subscription gives you full access to SketchUp Studio. To qualify for an Educator subscription, you need to be an educator at an accredited educational institution. You will need to submit your order with a valid .edu email address, or upload another form of proof.

For Free

SketchUp Make is no longer available. However, if you only need very basic tools (for basic 3D modelling) - or to allow your customers to see & play with their project - you can use the free SketchUp Web app. 

Note: This is for very basic use only. It is more of a visualiser than anything else.
